Customs arrests 19, intercepts fish, cannabis

The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), on Tuesday, arrested 19 smugglers and intercepted goods at the Nigeria/Benin Republic border.

The goods intercepted are dried fish, parboiled rice, kegs of petrol and a tanker.

Others are bales of second hand clothes and shoes, 17 vehicles, used tyres, sacks of cannabis and cartons of insecticides.

Parading the seized goods at the command’s headquarters yesterday, the Area Controller, Mr Adamu Abdulkadir, said the command generated over N80bn for the federal government between November, 2021, and January, 2022.

He said, “During the entire period, the command made 356 seizures, 46 detentions and 19 arrests. The arrested suspects were granted bail pending the determination of their cases.”
