Suspected cultists at the weekend gang-raped a 13-year-old JSS 3 student in a hotel at Igando area of Lagos.
The latest rape incident is coming less than one week after the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, vowed to apprehend suspects that gang-raped and murdered 13-year-old Favour Ikechukwu at Ejigbo, a densely populated area of Lagos.
The latest incident has elicited wide criticism and condemnation from residents, who have urged the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
It was learnt that one of the suspects is a known cultist identified as Sukomi alias Ikamula or G33 – a JSS dropout who is now a motor mechanic.
It was gathered that angry residents trooped to the Igando Police Station to register their displeasure over what they tagged “a despicable wicked act to a minor.”
It was also learnt that the prompt arrival of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Taiwo Kasumu, and his team led to the arrest of the kingpin of the gang identified as Toheeb Mustapha alias Sir Small.
A police source said preliminary investigation revealed that Ikanula who resided at Ita Alhaji Street, Ikotun, had earlier booked a room in the hotel on Monday, October 5, 2020, to prepare the ground for their dastardly act.
It was further learnt that on Tuesday afternoon, while the victim’s mother had gone out, Sir Small creeped into the victim’s house and lured her into the hotel where they were said to have taken turns in raping her until she bled.
The state police spokesman, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached as calls to his phone and an SMS were not replied.
