Cultists gun down mechanic in Bayelsa

A renewed cult clash on Monday at the Arietalin axis of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, has led to the killing of a mechanic simply identified as Friday.

Daily Trust gathered that the clash broke out when two rival cult gangs engaged in a shootout over the control of the area which is known for its notoriety in crime due to its proximity to creeks and rivers.

A source told Daily Trust that it was not ascertained if the slain mechanic was a member of any of the rival gangs.

The police spokesman in the state, SP Asinim Butswat, said, “On July 25, 2022, at about 1300hrs policemen responded to a distress call about a cult clash on Arietalin Street, Yenagoa. On arrival the policemen discovered the body of a mechanic, one Friday with surname unknown who was shot by the cultists.

“The photograph of the scene was taken and the corpse was evacuated and deposited at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri. Investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the culprits.”
