Youths in Ogun State, have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun and security agencies to rise up and nip in the bud the incessant killings by suspected cultists, saying the state is gradually becoming a “killing field.”

This comes as suspected cultists have reportedly murdered a computer science student of the National Open University of Nigeria, Mohammed Isiaka, 23, at Akerebiata area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The youths, under the aegis of Gateway Progressive Youths, made the appeal in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, through its Publicity Secretary, Olamide David.

Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 30 people have been killed across the state following renewed supremacy battle between members of the Aiye and Eiye cult groups.

Reacting to the killings, the Youths urged Abiodun and security agencies in the state to engage relevant stakeholders, including community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to end the menace.

The group said the sad loss of lives that were being witnessed in different parts of the state “is heart-touching, frustrating and unpardonable” and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

“The Government of Prince Dapo Abiodun needs to rise up to its responsibility of protecting the lives of citizens wherever they might be within the state.

“These unfortunate incidents are just but an addition to the series of many other killings meted, particularly to young people. If the violence continues unchecked, Ogun State may slip into a killing field where the government and security agencies will become helpless.

“We request that the government should without delay put an end to all needless and avoidable killings and fish out all perpetrators of these evil acts to properly bring them to book.

“Based on the foregoing, we would like to urge the State government to re-assess its security strategies with a view to unfolding a more holistic and all-inclusive approach,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, suspected cultists have murdered a computer science student of the National Open University of Nigeria, Mohammed Isiaka, 23, in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin, Kwara State.  The head of the victim, it was learnt, was also damaged after the attack.

The spokesman of the Police Command, Kwara State, Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident adding that the corpse of the victim has been deposited for autopsy.

“They shot him in the chest and policemen who raced to the scene took him to the UITH, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

“The Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, has ordered an investigation into the matter”, he added.
