Cult clash: 5 feared dead in Ebonyi

Five persons have been killed in three local government areas of Ebonyi state in three days following cult clashes.

One of the victims was a 15-year-old boy who was beheaded. He was also a Mass Server in one of the Catholic churches in Umuogbdapu Mgbo in Ohankwu local government area of the state.

Hon. Nwabueze Nwokwu, a former deputy speaker of Ezza South legislative council and Mr. Amos Ogodali from Ndufu Alike Ikwo, a member of road transport union, were among those killed in the clash which occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday between two rival cult groups.

Daily Trust also gathered that there was shooting spree at Orokeonuaha opposite Mile 50 in Abakaliki, the state capital by suspected cult fraternity which lasted for over 2 hours but no causualty was recorded.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident has caused panic in Ezza South and in Abakaliki as some youths suspected to be members of cult groups have flew the areas for fear of revenge.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi state command, ASP Loveth Odah, said she is yet to be briefed over the incident by the Divisional Police officers in the areas.

However, as at the point of filing in this report, the bodies of the 3 deceased persons in Ezza South have been brought to State Police Command Headquarters, Abakaliki.
