Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) has announced a yearlong partnership to strengthen the secretariat of Health Sector Reform Coalition (HSRC) hosted by Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON).

Chair of CHR board of trustees Dr. Aminu Magashi announced the move during a pre-departure dinner of the Nigerian civil society groups engaged in the Global Financing Facility (GFF) ahead of the forth coming World Bank/IMF spring meeting in Washington DC next week.

In the partnership, CHR will fund yearlong staff time of one program assistant and media officer to enable the coalition improve its administration and programmes using unspent funds from a recently concluded Champions 4 Change project.

Magashi said the commitment is in line with the on-going support to strengthen national accountability mechanism for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) in Nigeria.

The coalition brings civil society groups onto a platform that’s helped push for the National Health Act, finance for routine immunisation and increased health budget.

It is also to "improve transparency and accountability and batter engagement with the Federal Government, so I encourage all partners to support the HSRC to be very efficient," said Magashi Executive Secretary of HERFON, and the Civil Society Organizations representative in the GFF, Dr Emmanuel Abanida said the Nigerian delegation attending the World Bank/IMF spring meeting will participate in  meetings of the 16 GFF countries, Universal Health Coverage (UHC) financing forum, GFF high level meeting, and GFF investors group.
