The Concerned Civil Society Organisations in Kano State have demanded justice for children in the state over the kidnapping and killing of a five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar by her school proprietor, Abdulmalik Muhammad Tanko, in Kano.

The groups, through the Executive Director, Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS), Zainab Nasir Ahmad, at a press briefing also called for the establishment of a Child Rights Center to strengthen the protection of children.

She said while the private schools should be monitored to prevent the reoccurrence of such tragic incidents, the suspect arrested should be punished as required by the law.

According to Ahmad, the delay and failure to sign the Child Rights Act into law have also contributed to the incessant violence against children in the state, urging the state government to ensure passage of the law as a matter of emergency.

The groups also commended the Kano State Police Command for successfully nabbing the killer-kidnapper and consoled Hanifa’s family over the loss.
