Cross River lecturer foils own kidnap

An attempt to kidnap a pharmacology lecturer in the University of Calabar (Unical), Dr Babatunde Lawal, at his residence on the university’s campus on Sunday was resisted by the don.

The spokesman of Unical, Mr Eyo Effiong, who confirmed the incident, said Dr Lawal was “courageous enough” to resist the armed kidnappers.

According to a witness, Mr Sunday Akpan, “When the suspected kidnappers realised that their effort would be abortive, they shot Lawal in his thigh, hand and leg and fled.”

The police spokesperson in the state, Irene Ugbo, said she was not aware of the incident.
