Cross Examiners emerge champions of 2019 Abuja Lawyer’s tournament

The curtains went down on the 3rd edition of Abuja Lawyers’ League over the weekend as Cross Examiners law firm pipped Team MEXIS, the winner of the 2017 and 2018 editions, 1-0 to emerge champions of the tournament.

The unbeaten Cross Examiners team topped 13 other law firms teams, finishing the championship with 39 points from 13 matches while team MEXIS secured 34 points.

Also, JT Aondo team and LOF Legion team were on 28 points each but JT Aondo won the third place courtesy of goals different.

Meanwhile, Ajibola Olawale of MEXIS Team wins the highest goal scorer with 17 goals.

Speaking at the final of the 2019 edition, the sponsor of the tournament, Chief Akin Olujimi SAN, commended the organizers, pledging more support for the Abuja Lawyers’ League.

According to him: “Lawyers, naturally, are getting busy every day of the week and when they approached me, saying they wanted me to sponsor this year’s event, I did not hesitate to answer them. So, seeing them today playing like this, I am very pleased because it’s a way to relax from the rigour of the job.

He, however, appealed to other SAN to always support the game whenever the organizers seek their assistance.

“I want to appeal to my colleagues out there to support this event and encourage the young ones because what they are doing will help them to grow physically and mentally which will enable them to do well in their chosen profession.”

Also, speaking, the Coordinator of the tournament, Olujimi Olujide, admitted that though it was not an easy journey, he was happy that it was successful at last.

“There are a lot of improvements more than the previous editions; there is an improvement in the action on the field, increase in number of participated law firms with league format in 9 weeks.”

The winner, Second and third place teams smiled home with #250,000, #200,000 and #150,000 respectively as well as trophies and medals.
