The Federal Government of Nigeria says those opposed to the Extended Special Public Works Programme designed to engage 774,000 unemployed persons nationwide are insensitive to the hardship people at the grassroots face.
According to the government, poverty is on the increase at the grassroots.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, who stated this in Abuja while flagging off the programme, appealed to state coordinators to allow more women to participate in the programme because of their foresight to save money.
He stressed that no amount of money was too much to be expended on the initiative.
