Crisis: Plateau govt, NGOs harp on alternative dispute resolution

The project was part of the efforts to building a lasting peace in the state.

The Plateau State government and some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have urged the citizens of the state to find an alternative dispute resolution rather than result to violence.

The call came at the end of a five-day training workshop in Jos attended by participants drawn from communities in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas.

The project was part of the efforts to building a lasting peace in the state.

The Project Coordinator, Lydia Dung, said the participants were made up of traditional rulers and community leaders, among the Fulani and natives in the areas.

She said the training has equipped participants with various technical skills used to resolve dispute before it gets out of hand.

An Alternative Dispute Resolution expert, Mr Redzie Jugo, said the project gave the participating communities an ample opportunity to own and use it to enhance peaceful coexistence in their respective communities.

The Director General of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Joseph Lengmang, assured the inductees that the agency will continue to work with them, adding that ensuring peaceful coexistence is not the responsibility of the government alone.

The DG urged them to go and step down the knowledge gained during the training to members of their respective communities.
