Crisis: PDP govs ask Damagum to call NEC meeting

The governors’ forum of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday asked the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to as soon as possible convene a meeting of the appropriate organs of the party towards tackling some of the challenges facing the party.

The chairman of the forum and Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, told journalists in Abuja after a meeting of the governors that they had reviewed recent developments in the party and taken up the charge to revamp and reposition the party as an effective opposition.

The PDP has been enmeshed in a series of crises and controversies in the recent past before and after the loss of the presidential election to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Also, following the suspension of the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, stakeholders of the party have been at each other’s throat with a chieftain of the party, Segun Showunmi, going to court to ask the NWC to call for NEC and brief members on the state of the party.

But addressing journalists, Bala Mohammed said, “The forum passed a vote of confidence in the Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and urged it to put in motion the machinery for convening meetings of the appropriate organs of the party – from Caucus to National Executive Committee (NEC) as soon as possible.”

Those present at the meeting were Gov. Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Siminalayi Fubara, (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Mutfwang, (Plateau), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Dep.
