The Ogun State Government has asked its neighbouring Ondo State to caution its citizens against encroachment and attacks on Ogun indigenes in the communities bordering the two states.
The government noted that criminals from Ondo State “have been terrorising Ogun indigenes on their land, seeking to cause disaffection and instigate crisis between the two neighbouring states that share deep ethnic and historical links.”
The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who doubles as the Chairperson, Ogun State Boundary Committee, who made the appeal in Abeokuta, said the encroachment on Ogun communities came with assaults on the citizens, especially residents of Irokun Kingdom in Ogun Waterside LGA, adding that the culprits were allegedly from the Ilaje axis of Ondo State.
She also condemned the imposition of Princess Adeyinka Abejoye Ogunyemi as a regent in Irokun in strong terms, describing it as illegal and an act of impersonation.

She said, “Irokun, a kingdom in Ogun State has its own traditional ruler, the Onirokun of Irokun, a member of our Ijebu Traditional Council. The current Onirokun, Oba Buari Olayinka Balogun, is the eighth Onirokun and has been on the throne since October, 2007. Irokun is very pivotal to Ogun State and the state government will not fold its hands and allow criminals to overrun it.”
Salako-Oyedele added that she had discussed extensively with her counterpart in Ondo State over the crisis.
