The CEO of Bix Concepts, an event management consultancy, Bisong Agnes Uzoamaka, while speaking to Daily Trust  recently, said the country is faced with little or no jobs and hence advised youths to be ‘creative and proactive’ in fending for themselves and not depend on anyone.
The graduate of Microbiology from the University of Abuja ventured into events management mid last year because of the necessity to start her own business and also the desire and passion she has for managing events.
“I have always loved decorating the house, especially during occasions and events like Christmas and birthday celebrations. During these times, my parents would leave the decorations to me and I would do a marvelous job which everybody adored,” she said.
The microbiologist-turned-events manager said she learnt to be good at it from church where they organizes and manages events with support from their coordinator and also got more experience from working with Obi Ventures and Oracle, both event planners based in Abuja before setting up her own business.
Uzoamaka started Bix Concept, which is based in Kuje, with N500,000 sourced from her parents, and has managed four events since inception. She also noted that the business is a very lucrative one if one remained determined.
“It is a very lucrative business if you are serious about it, and there are a lot of prospects in it, one just needs to be focused and prayerful because God’s guidance is needed if you want your business to be successful,” she said.
She added that although her business faces challenges of location and competition, it doesn’t deter her from being focused in achieving her goals.
“Location matters. All the four events I have managed came from town. Kuje is slow for my business but I cannot afford to get an office in town due to the high cost of rent and it poses a major challenge for me at the moment,” she lamented.
