The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has said it will provide N5 billion relief support as Covid19 pandemic sweeps across Africa.

According to the tweet, the relief fund will be disbursed to states accordingly: “N1 billion to Lagos, Nigeria, N500 million to Abuja, Nigeria, N1 billion to the remaining 35 states in Nigeria.”
UBA said it will also support countries in Africa with the UBA presence: “N1.5 billion to UBA’s presence countries in Africa, N1 billion for Medical Centres with equipment & supplies Free Telemedicine call centre facility.”
The bank is taking the bulls by the horns as it said it will fund a medical centre in Lagos where the virus has hit the hardest.
“We’ll fund a medical centre immediately in Lagos, Nigeria, with beds for isolation & ICU facilities, managed & operated in partnership with @Heirs_Holdings healthcare subsidiary, #AvonMedicalHospital.”
The bank is also taking giant strides at using technology as a device to curb the menace, adding that: “In addition, we’re providing a free telemedicine platform, that is physician-led, to provide direct access to medical advice to citizens, in compliance with social distancing requirements.”
The Chairman of UBA, @TonyOElumelu, stated: ‘This is a time when we must all play our part.”
The institution commended the efforts of government towards the fight against the virus and also called on citizens and the private sector to partner with government as this is a crucial time for all stakeholders to come together and do their possible best.
“This global pandemic must bring citizens, governments & business leaders together – & quickly. As we see a rapidly increasing number of cases of the coronavirus in Nigeria & Africa, the private sector has to work hand in hand with various Governments, in stemming the spread.
“We commend the efforts of governments & we‘re keen to partner & contribute our resources to the collective effort, that’ll ensure the response to the pandemic is swift & effective,” UBA added.
