One hundred schools in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are the beneficiaries of medical materials donated by the Chinese embassy as part of their contribution to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
The items which were presented at the FCT minister’s office, Friday, in Abuja, includes; 100 forehead thermometer, 200 electro thermometer, 200 googles, 4000 pieces of disposable medical face masks, 5000 pairs of disposable medical gloves, packages of health wet tissues and medicated soaps.
Li Xuda, the cultural counselor of the Chinese embassy in Nigeria who represented the ambassador, said it is “friendship and solidarity” that makes the Chinese government to take the development and health of Nigerian schools into consideration especially at this period when the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths is increasing.
He said “At this critical moment with the aim to enhance bilateral cooperation in fighting the COVID-19 outbreak the Chinese embassy donates over 5 million naira of medical materials to 100 FCT schools.”
Xuda explained that “When FCT reopens its schools and distribute these medical materials to 100 schools, these schools will have the capability to timely confirm which student has a fever and who should be quarantined without delay.”
The representative of the FCT minister, Samuel U. Atang, who received the materials said that all hands have been on deck to tackle the menace of COVID-19 headlong.
He said “We thank the Chinese government for partnering with us most especially in the education sector”.
Atang explained that the FCT have put in place structures to tackle the menace and “This battle will clearly be won by the FCT administration and the Federal Government because of the zeal, resilient and leadership of the FCT administration”.
He added that the materials will help keep safe the staff and students of the schools.
