Zamfara State government has banned all public gatherings as part of proactive measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Gusau, the state commissioner for information and culture, Alhaji Suleiman Tunau Anka, said the measure had become necessary in view of the state government’s effort to protect people despite the fact that there was no recorded suspected case of the disease in the state.
He said all religious and traditional rulers were instructed to sensitise people on the need to take precautionary actions against the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at the conference too, the state commissioner for health, Dr Yahaya Muhammad Kanoma, said the site meant for the building of isolation centre had been allocated at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.
He however, added that the land had not been developed as the government was waiting for experts from the Federal Ministry of Health to come with the actual architectural design of the facility.
“An isolation centre is not just something you will wake up overnight and build. It needs careful designs peculiar to it. So in case of any outbreak of coronavirus we will put to use our available facility,” he added.
