COVID-19: US vaccinated person, 3 others die in Edo

The Permanent Secretary in the Edo State Ministry of Health, Osamwonyi Irowa, said the state had recorded four deaths from COVID-19 related complications within 24 hours including a man that received his vaccine in the United State of America.

Irowa disclosed this Wednesday in Benin during COVID-19 daily briefing.

He said, “Within 24 hours we have recorded four deaths, 65 new cases and eight recoveries. One of the victims is a 57-year-old man that had taken full dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine in USA; he was also diabetic while others were unvaccinated persons.

“But you don’t have to say because one person who had taken the vaccine died, you wouldn’t take it.”

He disclosed that since the advent of Delta variant in July 17, the state had recorded 30 deaths

He explained that none of the COVID-19 vaccine had 100 percent efficacy, adding those vaccinated could still die of the virus due to existing co-morbidity in individuals.

Irowa appealed to the residents to go for vaccination to protect them and reduce avoidable deaths.

“Those who had taken the vaccines should still adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocol as they can also get infected,” he warned
