The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to health facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The life-saving equipment was provided under the UNFPA CSOE COVID-19 Response Project from the COVID-19 One UN Basket fund response.
The donated items include 15,000 surgical face masks, 15,000 latex gloves, 10, 000 surgical gloves, 1,100 disinfectants, 1,100 hand sanitisers and 1,100 liquid washing soap among others.
Dr Babatunde Adelekan, UNFPA CSOE Focal aide, said the project is being implemented across nine states and the FCT with the goal of ensuring continuity of access for reproductive health, maternal and neonatal child services, and access and continuity of services for gender-based violence.
He said it was also aimed at sensitising communities on COVID-19, risk communication as well as developing a community action plan to respond and address myths and misconception about COVID-19.
He said the donation is the second in the series of interventions by the project in the last nine months, adding that health workers in the various facilities have been trained on GBV, case management , and identifying COVID-19, among others.
