The Police in Ondo state have warned residents of the state to strictly adhere to the stay-at-home directives of the state government on COVID-19 or risk possible arrest.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Adie Undie, gave the warning on Tuesday in Akure.

He said the warning becomes necessary as his visits to some notable points and markets within Akure metropolis showed that people were not abiding by the government’s directives.

He said that as an agency saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property, the Police Command will not watch the good people of the state to put their lives in harm’s way to contain the spread of the virus.

The Police boss said it will do the residents a lot of good if they adhered to precautionary advice as announced by health authorities, state and federal governments.

CP Adie said the disease has no respect for age or social status but could be avoided “if we could maintain social distancing and follow the stay at home directives for now.”
