Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has inaugurated 2000 COVID-19 Marshals to sensitize and enforce compliance to the COVID-19 protocols around the state.
This is in the government’s effort to curtail the spread of the disease as more cases have been recorded during the second wave of the pandemic in the state.

Inaugurating the marshals at the government house in Kano, Governor Ganduje said his government won’t just look at people breaching the protocols of the disease and spreading it over again, adding that the marshal will work with security agencies to ensure compliance.
“Today we are formally inaugurating the COVID-19 marshals who will help us to ensure that they educate and inform members of the public and also assist in punishing those who fail to obey the protocols of the pandemic.
“COVID-19 is back again we are in the second wave and therefore all our efforts must be back again to ensure that we curtail this pandemic.
“Many people are dying this time around and we cannot wait and see the continuous spread of this disease in our population.”
He said even though the state will not go into lockdown again, efforts will be made to continue supporting people affected financially by the disease, adding that all stakeholders have been engaged to ensure full control of the situation.
13 out of 100 people tested turn positive
On his part, the Chairman Technical Committee of COVID-19 Response, Dr. Tijjani Ibrahim, urged people to ensure compliance with the protocols, stressing that the second wave is more dangerous than the first one.
He said every 13 out of 100 people tested in recent time turn out to be positive which signifies a rise in the cases.
“Before the second wave of the disease, we attained zero level of cases in Kano but now every 13 out 100 tests turns out positive.
“Compared to the first wave of the pandemic this is alarming because then we used to have 4 positives out of 100 people.”
The emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero thanked the state government for its commitment in providing good health to the public and urged people to ensure compliance and cooperate with the marshals in doing their job.
