The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi state chapter, on Tuesday held its state congress despite ban by the party headquarters on Monday.
The event took place at the popular PA Ngale Oruta Township, Abakiliki early Tuesday.
A source who did not want his name in print told Daily Trust that the exercise lasted for about two hours.
Our correspondent gathered that members of the state security outfit popularly known as “neighbourhood watch” were at the event alongside armed policemen.
Late Monday, the National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said the has also resolved to suspend all activities bordering on congresses, rallies and other large gathering of its members.
The statement read, “This decision has become imperative in respect to the need for continuous social distancing and other health safety measures against the spread of COVID-19 in our country.
“The PDP enjoins the federal government to continue to review situations as they concern the fight against the spread of COVID-19 and take measures, even if stringent, to safeguard lives,” the party said.
