The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylver has said that, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its partners have so far committed over N21 billion to support efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
He disclosed this while presenting items donated to the Kano State government by the federal government through a collaborative initiative between the NNPC and partners.
According to him, NNPC and its partners will also construct a comprehensive health centre with drug manufacturing facility in Kano State as part of the federal government interventions in the healthsector.
Chief Timipre led the FG’s delegations that comprises the NNPC Group
Managing Director (GMD) Mele Kyari and representatives of other departments of the organisation.
He said the items donated to Kano State government include a fully kitted ambulance, medical consumables, face masks and other important items that are needed in the fight against the pandemic.
In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated that, the state government was pleased to receive the NNPC’s assistance given to the state especially “at a critical moment like this when the nation is recording an increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19”.
Ganduje told the delegation that, the state government has already provided the land for the siting of the comprehensive health facility and assured the delegation of putting the items received into good use.
