Nasarawa State has recorded its first positive result of the coronavirus pandemic, Daily Trust reports.

Governor Abdullahi Sule said the index case is a Kano returnee.

He said this during the COVID-19 Task Force Committee meeting held at the Government House Lafia on Tuesday.

According to him, “The lady, who returned to Kokona Local Government from Kano was among the five samples tested, out of which four turned out negative.

“She has since been isolated and is presently receiving medical attention at the isolation centre in Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, (DADH), Lafia.”

The Governor stressed that the state government is in talks with the NCDC to secure the resources for use by the state to fight the COVID-19.

Governor Sule said the state government is in the process of enforcing the compulsory wearing of face mask as soon as it receives the delivery.

He stated that the ban on commercial motorcycles was aimed at maintaining social distancing.

He, however, clarified that it is allowed for only one person to ride on a motorcycle with no passenger.

Daily Trust reports that despite Nasarawa state’s proximity to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, which has recorded over 100 cases of the pandemic, the state until this development was yet to record any case.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, late on Monday, announced 64 new cases of COVID-19 in the country to take the total number to 1337.

Monday’s figure is a decrease in figures recorded in the past few days.

Breakdown of the new cases shows that 34 were reported in Lagos, 15 in FCT, 11 in Borno and two each in Taraba and Gombe states.

A post on the NCDC Twitter handle reads: “As at 11:20pm 27th April- 1337 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria.”

Also, 255 patients have been discharged while 40 deaths have been recorded.
