The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), has observed that the varied resumption of schools after closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic has made states of the federation to be running different academic calendars.
While some states are presently running the 3rd term of the 2019/2020 academic session, others have already moved on to the 1st term 2020/2021 academic session.
The national president of the association, Chief Yomi Otubela, in a virtual meeting to commemorate the year 2020 NAPPS Day, said running different academic calendars was not good for the development of the nation’s education.
He, therefore, called on the federal government to assist in the unification of the different academic calendars so that school children could be fully prepared to sit for external examinations.
The theme for this year’s NAPPS Day, ‘Digital Revolution as a Tool in Revamping Nigeria’s Education in Post COVID-19 Era’, according to him, is appropriate as it gives an insight into the plethora of challenges school owners have had to confront in the past months, which have reshaped the way they do things due to the interruption on every aspect of life.
As the world is getting fully digitalised, Otubela maintained that it was imperative that private schools and by extension, Nigeria’s education system, fully embrace remote learning and automated administrative processes in their operations.
“It is only through this that our educational system can begin the process of providing services in line with best international practices,” he noted.
