COVID-19: Mosques urged to observe safety protocols

An Islamic cleric, Dr Abdullah Shuaib, has urged mosque leaders across the country to ensure their congregation adhere strictly to COVID-19 safety precautions.

Taking precautions, he said, was in line with the Maqaasid al-Shar’iah (Objectives of Shari’ah) of protection of human life and family.

In a chat with Daily Trust, Shuaib noted that with the increasing number of cases at the community level, all hands must be on deck to contain the virus.

He said: “To all leaders of various mosques across the country, I advise that they continue to mobilise their congregations to follow all the non-pharmaceutical protocols laid down by government to contain the deadly coronavirus and minimise their movements from one place to another unless absolutely necessary.”
