COVID-19: Lagos civil servants to work twice a month

The Lagos State Government has reviewed working hours and other modalities of public servants under its employment as part of measures targeted at breaking the cycle of coronavirus transmission in the civil service.

Following the review adopted to mitigate the spread of the virus, the State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said that workers would henceforth only come to work twice a month.

Muri-Okunola who decried the rate at which civil servants were testing positive to coronavirus explained that the review had become imperative considering the priority placed on workers’ lives by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, which necessitated the adoption of twice-monthly appearance for the workers to ensure their full protection from the deadly pandemic.

The HoS in a memo sent to Accounting Officers urged the officers to come up with duty rosters to stem the outbreak in their respective Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).

“The roster should be prepared with an Officer having to report for duty at most twice a month. Please note that this directive is without prejudice to existing directives and only reinforces same which are in effect and compliance abysmal,” he said.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on his twitter handle  @jidesanwoolu stressed the need for Lagosians to follow the COVID-19 safety guidelines to safeguard their friends and loved ones; saying, coronavirus is not a glamorous disease, neither is it a hoax.

He disclosed that a new oxygen plant has been activated to provide the needed oxygen to patients.

The plant, he said will also supplement oxygen supply to about 300 cylinders per day and six cylinders per hour.

“We are working to ensure patients receive the best care at our state facilities.” He tweeted.
