COVID-19: FORWARD Campaign to check spread – Commissioner

Kaduna State Commissioner of Health, Dr Amina Mohammed Baloni has reiterated the need for people to abide by the Covid-19 prevention protocol in order to reduce the spread of the infection.

Dr Baloni who lamented that Kaduna State is at the active community transmission stage, said that ‘’results obtained from our mobile testing truck show that there are now cases in local governments like Ikara, Kubau and Lere local governments that didn’t have any.’’

The Commissioner said that ‘’officials of the Risk Communication sub-committee of the Emergency Operation Committee (EOC) have started engaging stakeholders at the grassroots, especially those with high burden cases.’’

Dr Baloni said that the officials are basically strengthening the FORWARD campaign.

According to her, ‘’the FORWARD campaign entails asking people to wear face masks when they are out doors, observing social distancing, remaining indoors as much as possible, washing hands with soap and water, avoiding large crowds, exercising regularly and eating immune-boosting foods.’’

Dr Baloni called on community leaders to cooperate with the Risk Communication officials by taking the FORWARD message to the grassroots, adding that ‘’preventing the spread of Covid-19 is in our hands.’’

The Commissioner said that out of the 644 cases that were reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday, 32 cases were in Kaduna state, making it the ninth highest in the country.
