COVID-19: FG targets 70% Nigerians for vaccination

The Federal Government has said that no fewer than 70 percent of the Nigerian population will be vaccinated when the Federal Government takes delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19,  Mr. Boss Mustapha, said this on Monday in Abuja at the sensitisation meeting on COVID-19 vaccine introduction with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria and scholars.

According to him, this is a target the government has set for itself and has assured Nigerians that it will do all it can to ensure the goal is achieved.

Mustapha said that no one would be allowed to travel to any part of the world without getting vaccinated in the coming weeks.

He noted that the countries across the world were already embracing vaccination and Nigeria cannot be left out.

“I urged all Nigerians to wave off conspiracies. COVID-19 vaccines that the Federal Government was expecting would be properly screened by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) before administration.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is the most significant global public health emergency of our generation. Humanity has been under the siege of this virus since 30th of January, 2020 (exactly one year ago) when the WHO declared it as such.

“It has taken lives, consumed trillions of dollars and other resources without abating. Today, the global infections have exceeded one hundred million while fatalities have also crossed the two million mark,” Mustapha said.
