He noted that, with the trained volunteers and the donation and other facilities provided by the state government at Nsukka and Awgu, the State was fully prepared to contain any outbreak of the disease.
On his part, the chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Enugu State, Dr. Ike Okwesili, commended the efforts of the institute aimed at curtailing the spread of the virus, adding that the institute was the first NGO in the state to have expressed readiness to help in curtailing the escalation of the pandemic.
Earlier in his address, the Director of the Institute, Pro. Ike Oluka, said that the decision by the institution to present a counter attack intervention mechanism to contain the virus was informed by the fact that “in times of war, men and women must come out to confront and defeat the attacker.
“The COVID-19 intervention project is our own contribution towards stemming the tide of the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently ravaging humanity and towards this, we have trained volunteer corps who shall operate in the state” he said.
He noted that the institute had also procured protective gowns and other infection prevention and control materials to be donated to some private health facilities in the state.
