Commissioners for health have charged the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to extend more support to states to enable them to better confront the ravaging virus.

The national chairman of Health commissioners in Nigeria, Dr Betta Edu made the call in an interview with newsmen in Calabar.

She noted that a lot still needs to be done to strengthen the response in all the states.

Edu, who is also the Commissioner for Health in Cross River State and chairman of the COVID-19 Response Team, said she had held a meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha last week in Abuja where she impressed on the need for greater response to Cross River and other states in the Federation, which are experiencing some challenges in the national COVID-19 response.

She said in the face of the second wave of COVID-19, the support required by affected states is an emergency, calling PTF and NCDC to intervene immediately.
