The Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) has called on governments at both national and state level to assist their members with palliatives to cushion the effect of COVID-19.
National president of the association, Ishiyaku Adamu Gombe, who made the call at a press briefing to commemorate the 2020 White Cane Safety Day, said the community went through difficulties during the lockdown.

He explained that majority of them depend on the informal sector of the economy, therefore had to go out daily to eke a living.

As a result of the lockdown, most of the blind lost their means of livelihood and are finding it difficult to pay their children’s school fees and take care of other family obligations.
