Three persons have died from the new Delta variant of COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom State.
The state has also recorded 156 positive cases in two weeks.
Secretary to the State Government and Chairman, Akwa Ibom State COVID-19 Committee, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, stated this yesterday during a press briefing in Uyo, the state capital.
Ekuwem said since the new Delta variant has pushed the number of positive cases from five to 156 in two weeks, all COVID-19 monitoring mechanisms in the state have been reactivated to ensure strict compliance with guidelines.
“Over the past two weeks, cases of COVID-19 within the state have risen from five to 156,” he said.
He, therefore, appealed to all residents to observe strictly all safety protocols and make themselves available for test.
