A Kaduna State High Court sitting in Zaria under Justice Muhammad M. Ladan has ordered the state government to desist from demolishing about 267 residential houses located in some communities of the city.
Owners of the houses, numbering 125, took the state government to the court, praying for an order to stop it or any of its agencies from demolishing their houses.
The court order reads in part: “An order in the interim restraining the respondents, their agents, privies, assigns and any person or authority acting for or on behalf of the respondents from demolishing or further demolishing the applicants landed properties which numbered up to 267 residential houses situated at Kofar Doka, Unguwan Alkali Kofan Kibo and Gangaran Jama’atu…..pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
Justice Ladan then adjourned further hearing of the case to December 16, 2015.
A letter written to the governor by leaders of the communities had urged him to set up a committee to ascertain the boundaries of Alhudahuda College, Zaria, to avoid pulling down houses that belong to innocent residents.
