Court sentences cobbler for phone theft

A magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun State on Monday sentenced a 19-year-old cobbler, Mohammed Henry, to 16 months imprisonment for stealing a phone.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, told the court that Henry committed the offence on August 22, 2020 at about 5pm at Railway Line, behind First Bank, Aregbesola area, Osogbo.

Olusegun said Henry unlawfully entered into the shop of Ms Titilayo Albert and stole her phone valued at N37,000.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

His lawyer, Kehinde Adepoju, pleaded with the court to be lenient with his client, saying he was a first-time offender.

The magistrate, Mr Ishola Omisade, convicted Henry, sentencing him to 16 months imprisonment without an option of fine.
