An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has convicted and sentenced three persons to death by hanging for armed robbery and conspiracy.

Those convicted are Akingbade David, Michael Mayowa and Ibrahim Jimoh Mukaila. They were said to have committed the offences on March 1, 2019 at NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti, where they robbed one Gbenga Ajayi of his Toyota Corolla car at gunpoint.

They were charged to court for conspiracy and armed robbery, which is contrary to section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Vol. 14, laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

An assistant chief legal officer, O. F. Ajumobi, who prosecuted the case for Ekiti State, called two witnesses and tendered 11 exhibits in support of the case.

The convicts were represented by Akin Abon, Iyanu Olumuagun and Adeyinka Opaleke, who gave evidence in their defence but did not call additional witnesses.

In his judgement, Justice J. O. Adeyeye held that the prosecution had proved all the ingredients of the offence against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge consequently convicted all the defendants and sentenced them to death by hanging.
