A Gombe State High Court on Friday restrained Reverend Joseph Alphonsus Shinga from parading himself as Gombe State chapter chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

The court was approached by Bishop Simeon Ehpron Yaldins and Reverend Joshua Bigla Kwaya, seeking an order to stop Rev. Shinga and others from being inaugurated as leaders of CAN in the state.

Bishop Yaldins’ faction approached the court to seek redress following a leadership crisis that rocked the association after an election of its new executives.

The exparte order granted by Justice H. H. Kereng, restrained Rev Shinga’s led executive from inaugurating, swearing-in, celebrating or any other activities into the said office.

The court order signed by the registrar, Abubakar Hussain, directed the defendants and respondents to, “maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the plaintiffs’ and applicants’ motion on notice now pending before the court.”

The court fixed February 28 for hearing of the matter.

When contacted, Reverend Shinga confirmed to newsmen that he was served with the court notice and exparte order, saying he has also forwarded the same to both Zonal and National Headquarters of CAN.
