Court remands woman accused of pouring acid on husband

A magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday remanded a 44-year-old housewife, Adetoro Olawuni, in prison custody for allegedly pouring acid on her husband, Mr Olapoju Olawuni, causing him bodily harm.

The police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that Adetoro committed the offence on September 12, 2017 at about 1am at Prime Area,  sogbo, and fled, saying she was arrested on Monday.

Fagboyinbo told the court that Olawuni suffered serious injuries and had been in Edo State receiving treatment, with many surgeries done on him but he was yet to recover.

Although the prosecutor did not mention the cause of the fight between the couple, Daily Trust learnt that the defendant had accused her husband of having an affair with another woman.

Adetoro pleaded not guilty to the offence levelled against her.

Her counsel, Mr Okobe Najite, applied for bail for her client.

But Fagboyinbo opposed the bail application, warning that the defendant might jump bail.

The magistrate, Mr Abayomi Ajala, remanded Adetoro at the Ilesa Correctional Centre till Tuesday September 8, 2020 for hearing.
