A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of a man in the Nigeria Correctional Centre, in Ado-Ekiti, for alleged rape, stealing and attempted murder.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, informed the court that Ogunlola Gboyega, 30, was reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of rape, attempted murder and stealing from a 27-year-old lady in Iworoko-Ekiti on September 5, 2021.

Inspector Apata urged the court to remand the defendant to allow him forward the duplicate case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.
According to the prosecutor, the offences run contrary to and are punishable under Sections 358,320 and 390 of Criminal Code, Cap C16Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
In her explanation to the police, the victim said she was going to Anambra State to check on her children and boarded Ogunlola’s car where she slept off and later found herself in his room raped, beaten and iron inserted in her private part, which landed her in the hospital.
The victim also alleged that the defendant stole her phone and a cash sum of N260,000 meant for her children’s school fees.
Magistrate Saka Afunso adjourned the case to October 6 for mention.
