A magistrate court in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Wednesday, remanded a 38-year-old man, Bamigboye Opeyemi, for allegedly killing his neighbour.

The prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adesina, told the court that the accused person committed the offence on February 24, 2021, around 3:30 pm at Oke-Ora village in Ile-Ife.

Adesina said the defendant conspired with others now at large and terrorised the residents of the area thereby committing a felony.

He added that Bamigboye unlawfully fired a gunshot at his neighbour, Segun Awotunde, and killed him.

Adesina said the accused person conducted himself in a manner that caused the breach of public peace and terrorised the people of the village.

The prosecutor further stated that the accused person attempted to kill one Rabiu Opeyemi by shooting him on the head, which caused him harm.

Adesina also explained that the accused person also attempted to kill one Adesoji Yinka by shooting him on the left thigh.

The prosecutor said that the offence committed by the accused person contravened Sections 249(d), 319(1), 320(1), 324 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Magistrate A. I. Oyebadejo did not take the plea of the defendant on the ground that the court lacks jurisdiction to try a murder case.

The magistrate asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The judge remanded the accused person in the Correctional Centre for pending legal advice.

The matter was adjourned till May 3, for hearing.
