Court remands man for killing 50-year-old mum

A magistrates’ court sitting in Kano State on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 22-year-old man, Ibrahim Musa, who allegedly stabbed his mother, Hajara Mohammed (50), to death.

The police charged Musa, who lives in Bachirawa Quarters, Kano, with culpable homicide.

The prosecution counsel, Mrs Rabi’a Sa’ad, told the court that the defendant on May 3, at Rimin Kebe Quarters, Kano, at about 6pm stabbed his mother with a knife on different parts of her body.

She said, “As a result, she sustained injuries and was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

The offence, the police said, contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Almustafa-Kofarmata, before ordering the remand directed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice and adjourned to June 27. (NAN)
