A magistrate court in Osogbo yesterday remanded a 23-year-old man, Adeleke Opeyemi, in prison for allegedly stealing a lady’s panties from the bathroom of her apartment at the Ago-Wande area in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Opeyemi, who was accused of stealing the panties in the wee hours of yesterday, was said to have been caught by its owner, Miss Gift Sunday, who apprehended him and recovered her undies.
Sunday went ahead to report the matter to the police at the Dugbe divisional police headquarters and Opeyemi was arrested and interrogated.
When the accused was arraigned at the court yesterday, the police prosecutor, Inspector Jafani Muslim, told the court that he sneaked into Sunday’s bathroom around 1am on Monday January 21, 2019 and stole her panties.
The prosecutor told the court that the intent of the accused person for stealing the undies was not known yet, noting that such instances had become rampant as it is believed ladies’ panties are now being used for money ritual.
Opeyemi pleaded not guilty of the offence. He said God actually touched his heart to return the panties and the owner wouldn’t have seen him if he didn’t come back to drop it.
Opeyemi’s lawyer, Mrs Susan Adeagbo, prayed the court to grant her client a bail on most liberal terms since he had returned the panties or it had been recovered from him.
The magistrate, Mrs Modupe Awodele, expressed her interest in the case. Awodele advised all ladies to be careful with their panties so as not to fall prey to money ritualists.
She remanded Opeyemi in Ilesa prison and adjourned the case till February 12, 2019.
