A former Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Professor Anthony Elujoba and the bursar of the institution, Mrs. Josephine Akeredolu, have been remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by a High Court in Ede, Osun State.
EFCC officials arrested and arraigned Elujoba and Akeredolu before the court over allegations of corrupt practices and financial impropriety in the university.
They were arraigned on a seven-count charge including intent to steal money belonging to the university and conspiracy to defraud the institution. Counsel to the accused, Mr Ibrahim Lawal who had earlier filed a bail application, pleaded with the court not to remand the accused persons in prison. Justice David Oladimejia ordered that Elujoba and Akeredolu be remanded in the custody of EFCC pending bail application hearing next week.
