Court remands Civil servant over alleged culpable homicide

A Sokoto Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered that Nura Saraki. a civil servant, be remanded in prison over alleged culpable homicide.

Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, gave the order to enable the police conclude investigation.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 12 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Samuel Sule, told the court that the case was reported at Dadin Kowa Divisional Police headquarters by one Hassan Abubakar of Manuru road on Sept. 22.

Sule alleged that the accused, who led a four-man-gang now at large, beat up one Ibrahim Aminu to death after accusing him of stealing a cellphone Tundun Wazam area of Sokoto.

After the charges were read to him, Saraki, 39, who resides at Tundun Dan Wazam area of Sokoto, pleaded not guilty.

The offence, the prosecution said, contravened the provisions of Section 221 of the Penal Code.

Under the code, anyone who by criminal negligence causes bodily harm to another person is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years.
