Court remands 8 for looting Oba’s palace in Osun

A magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun State on Monday remanded eight persons at a correctional centre for looting the palace of Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi.

The accused are: Akeem Okeowo, Hammed Raifu, Lakin Oyetade, Okeowo Saheed, Ibrahim Musiliu, Ahmed Sunmonu, Kazeem Kamorudeen and Kolawole Opeyemi.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 26, 2020, at about 10:00am at Akire’s Palace in Ikire.

He told the court that the accused persons broke into the palace and committed felony.

He further said that the suspects damaged Oba Falabi’s Toyota Carrina car with Reg. No AE 451 XXY and a Mazda car, belonging to one of his chiefs, Falana Muritala.

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 516, 414, 70 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun state 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them by the police

In her ruling, the magistrate, Modupe Awodele, ordered that the accused be remanded at Ile-Ife correctional centre.

She also ordered the police to refer the duplicate case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice and transferred the case to Ikire Magistrate court for mention on December 21.
