A Magistrate Court in Makurdi on Tuesday ordered that seven men, be remanded in prison custody over alleged membership of an unlawful society, pending legal advice.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ajuma Igama, remanded Kater Monyo, Ngutswen Eric, Terver Therese, Shater Orduen, Terver Faki, Igbalagh Aondosoo and Sunday Avon, who reside in Akoodo village, Tarka Local Government Area, Benue.
Igama, who did not take the plea of the suspects, said that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
She ordered the police to return the case file to the Office of the Benue Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and adjourned the case until Sept 20 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Ato Godwin, said the suspects were arrested by a police surveillance patrol team led by DSP. Husseini Idasho on Aug 18 from their hideouts.
Ato further told the court that the suspects, who were members of “Black Skull”, were arrested while holding an initiation ceremony. (NAN)
