An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 22-year-old commercial driver, Sodiq Adenitan, and a 23-year-old security guard, Femi Oyediran, who pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of firearms and marijuana.
Adenitan resides at No. 87, Cibiu Kaw St., Ikeja, while Oyediran is a resident of No. 22, Abule Oba St., Ikorodu, Lagos.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Tanimola, ordered that the accused be kept behind bars pending review of the facts of the case and their sentencing.
The duo is facing a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession of marijuana, breach of the peace and unlawful possession of firearms.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that the accused committed the offences, with others still at large, on Nov. 9, at 10.20p.m. on Ago Street, Mushin, Lagos.
Koti said that the accused breached public peace by possessing one AK 47 with live ammunition with the intent to terrorise the community.
He also submitted that the accused were smoking marijuana.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the alleged offences contravene Sections 41, 44, 56, 168 and 296 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, (Revised).
Section 296 prescribes 14 years’ imprisonment for unlawful possession of firearms.
The chief magistrate fixed Dec. 5 for review of the facts of the case and sentencing of then accused.
