A Federal High Court sitting in Kano, presided over by Justice A. M. Liman, has reaffirmed Muhammad Sani Abacha as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for next year’s election in the state.
The court dismissed a suit filed by Jaafar Sani Bello alleging that Abacha was not a legal member of the PDP.
In the judgement delivered virtually yesterday, the judge disagreed with Bello and upheld that a waiver was granted to Abacha by the national leadership of the party to contest the primary.
He added that the respondent submitted the waiver to the court as evidence.

A Federal High Court had earlier ruled that INEC should replace Sadik Aminu Wali with Abacha as the PDP governorship candidate in the state.
In an originating summon, Bello alleged that Abacha did not follow the procedure to register his membership at the local government and ward levels respectively.
But the presiding judge said the national leadership of the PDP gave waivers to every aspirant to register with the party and allowed them to contest accordingly, adding that the waiver covered Abacha.
He also said the court agreed with the respondent’s submission that he was screened by the national leadership of the party.
