The Court of Appeal on Monday held its first Alternative Dispute Resolution hearing, three years after setting up of the court’s Mediation Centre in Abuja.
The president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, asked the judiciary to rise up and meet the challenges of adjudication in the 21st century.
“Where we successfully achieve this, it will undoubtedly make the nation more attractive to international trade and foreign direct investment. This will improve employment and domestic economic growth.
“Appellate mediation is now part of the global legal lexicon, straddling the appellate courts of countries such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom (which piloted its program in 2012 and has run Mediation Scheme since then), and Thailand, among numerous others that have followed suit.”
