A Jigawa high court has committed one Jibril Idi to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl.
The court, which was presided over by Justice Ado Yusuf Birnin Kudu, found the accused guilty of raping the underage (name withheld) on 27th, 2017 in Digisina village in Birniniwa LGA, when the victim was a JSS 1 student.
The offence is contrary to Section 282 (1)(e) of the Penal Code Cap P3 Laws of Jigawa State 2012 and punishable under Section 3 of the Penal Code (Miscellaneous Amendment) Law No. 9, 2014.
During the trial, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence. As such, the prosecuting counsel in their efforts to prove the case against the defendant called 4 Witnesses, tendered 3 exhibits and closed their case.
In his ruling, Justice Birnin Kudu found the defendant guilty of the offence of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
